Ride Rite Drivers average nearly 400 miles per day, and occasionally drive as much as 600 miles or more in one shift. That's the equivalent to driving from central Virginia to Boston, Massachusetts.

Our drivers interact with a wide variety of people every day. They must be kind and courteous at all times, and willing to help those who have disabilities or are weak or sick.

Can I Handle Being Self-Employed?
Being your own boss is more than deciding what work schedule to keep or how much money you want to make. Self-employment requires keeping track of expenses, paying taxes and maintaining up-to-date business and professional licensure. It also requires more effort and time than a routine job. It also means the amount of money you make from week to week can, and will vary. There's no doubt that self-employment comes at a risk, but the rewards for taking that risk can be great. The feeling of self-sufficiency and the ability to make well above average earnings are just a couple of the many rewards of being successfully self-employed.

Am I Able To Get Up Early?
An average day for a Ride Rite driver means picking up their assigned vehicle by 6:00AM. However, some days require starting as early as 3:30AM.

Do I Have An Internet-Connected Computer At Home?
Each Ride Rite driver receives their work schedule by 8:00PM for the next day. This schedule is received via email. The driver is required to open and print their schedule from home, and reply to dispatch via email that they have successfully received their work.

Am I Sensitive Towards Those With Disabilities?
A number of our passengers have physical disabilities, mental disabilities or both. Those with physical disabilities sometimes require assistance to and from the vehicle, and getting inside and out of the vehicle. Those with mental disabilities must always be treated with kindness and respect. Our drivers must be sensitive to those needs and assist whenever necessary.

Do I Have A History Of Driving Safely?
During the interview phase, perspective drivers are required to provide a recent copy of their Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from DMV. Drivers must maintain a zero point balance on their MVR. Also, drivers must not have any convictions of reckless driving, or DUI.

Do I Refrain From Using Tobacco?
Ride Rite maintains a strict policy forbidding tobacco use by our drivers while on duty. We prefer to contract with people who do not use tobacco products.

Do I Have A Clean Criminal Record?
Perspective drivers must go through a preliminary background check during the application process. A background check will also be performed by the Charlottesville Police Department. Those convicted of any felony or class I misdemeanor will be excluded from consideration for the driver position.

Am I Comfortable Driving In The Dark?
With routes beginning as early as 3:30AM, driving in the dark will be necessary. This will be problematic for those with night blindness and those who are not comfortable driving at night.

Can I Lift 40 Pounds?
From time to time, it will be necessary for drivers to lift medical equipment or devices into the trunk or rear of the vehicle. Some common items are walkers, strollers and manual folding wheelchairs.

Can I Accurately Follow Directions?
With a general service area that covers 12 counties, and an expanded drop off area that encompasses the entire state of Virginia, it is important to be able to follow directions. While all Ride Rite vehicles are equipped with GPS navigation units, it is sometimes necessary to follow directions given verbally.

Am I Able To Write Neatly?
Each driver is required to maintain a log of every trip. These logs are turned in each day to be processed. If the processor cannot read the log, or if the log is incomplete, the driver cannot be paid for those trips. Maintaining neat and accurate logs is essential to being a successful Ride Rite driver.

All drivers are subject to random drug testing.
